On a sunny pleasant day President Dave S opened the meeting to a crowd of Rotarians, some arriving with their summer shorts on! For the first time in memory, there were no visiting Rotarians or guests, so everyone paid a fine. Attendance was 28 members. Pledge was led by 2nd VP Dave S, America led by PP Dave B, and prayer from PP Bill C, who will only be with us for a short time, until next summer, before returning to his enthusiastic teaching duties. I do hope the students and their parents realize how great he is. We should all love our job like he does.

Quite a few members paid happy dollars, which now are more frequent than fines. New member Steve M pledged $40.00 for a great time at Old Orchid Beach, eating lots of lobsters. PP Murry was happy about his time in Chicago, and managed to escape without getting caught up in local politics or crime. PP Bill C reported hearing from Don Jenkins, via PP Dave E. VP Jim S seemed happy about a planned vacation, and did not mention his leaky boat this time. PP Murray also said how happy he was about PP Bill C’s presence at our meetings.  I think we will all miss Bill’s role at our meetings. PP Nick C spoke about his experience with a summer waterfall. Too bad it was from the second story of his house from a faulty water hose to his washer, and on to his newly renovated kitchen, no less. Anyone who has a clothes washer should use a reinforced hose, a flood stop hose (which will not work with all washers), or a steel mesh covered hose, all available from your local plumber or hardware store. Perhaps we could get Bob C to bring in a bunch at our next meeting. PP Bob S replaced PP Dan B as joke teller for the day, reading some he got from the Internet- all funny, and all could be told, without embarrassment, in mixed company!

President Dave read a thank you letter from the Town Library for a club donation, and mentioned some dates to remember:

Sept 22 New member event planned for Hasting Park from 11AM to 4PM- details to follow!

Sept 26, District Foundation Event- DanversImage

ImageOur speaker for the day was new member Steve Mead. From a family with 8 siblings, he spoke about not being brought into the family tree business. As the youngest, he got a chance to go to college, where he played hockey.  He had jobs in the banking industry, did spend some time in the family tree business, and then back to banks. He is now at Cambridge Trust Bank in the commercial loan department.  He lives with his wife Tammy, 2 sons, and his mother and mother in-law! It must make for interesting family dynamics!

The 50/50 was won by PP Doug.

As a final note: As a long term member of this club, I have been writing bulletins for many years, and it is always handled by PP Bob S. He receives the bulletins that we all write, and gets it into print, and either sent, or e-mailed to all through PP Dan B. His role is likely the longest time that a single person has had had such a significant role in the weekly functions of our club, in the clubs history! We all owe Bob our thanks.
