Pres. Murry started today’s fast paced meeting as a chill filled the air outside. A near record attendance for this year as 32 Lexington Rotarians (only two regular members were missing) and one guest enjoyed Chicken Pot Pie, salad, cold cuts and the always-enjoyable chocolate chip cookies buried in delicious strawberries.

Alan A. started the pledge and was followed by Charlie V.’s first attempt to begin the 1st verse of America that failed and sent Linda running for the door. Charlie quickly stopped us mid sentence and started again and led us to a much better rendition. PDG Jack M. then offered a thoughtful invocation. After the introduction of our guest Charlie redeemed himself again with a lively Welcome song.

Happy dollars were abundant as Charlie V. led the charge with $5.00 for his false start to America; PP Dan B., Jr. offered $10.00 for his trip to Florida; Susan C. $5.00 for her pending vacation; Marian A. paid $10.00 for a laundry list of happy reasons; Julianne D. offered additional dollars for her fling in the Florida sun; PP Spencer B. paid $5.00 for a trip to the Big Easy and was then fined for a complimentary article about him that appeared in the Colonial Times; PDG Jack M. paid 20 grateful dollars for his grandchild’s successful surgery over the week end. Pres. Elect David S. tried to fine five Rotarians who appeared together in another article in the same issue of the Colonial Times, not aware of the exemption for those who appear on Rotary business. Better luck next time, David.

Lexington Ace Hardware, Arlex Oil Corp., Walpole Bank, Connie Neville and Busa Wine and Spirits donated raffle gifts this week.

Speaker

ImageMarian A. introduced our guest speaker, Carroll Ann Bottino, teacher and director extraordinaire of Pacem Music Studio. Wow, what a biography: Mathematician, Scientist, Citizen Astronomer, and Musician. She served our nation working at the Space Surveillance Laboratory and at the Cambridge Research Laboratory in Lexington among many other endeavors. After retirement from government service she combined her mathematic and musical background and became a music teacher, her present avocation. She teaches piano, harpsichord and recorders to a number of children as well as many retired people in Lexington. Another great program by Julianne D. and Marian A.

The 50/50 raffle of $80.00 was won by Connie Neville (again) and with that the meeting was adjourned.
