George Murnaghan Speaks About Lex Eat Together

A clear and cold day greeted the 35 hardy souls in attendance for this year’s joint Rotary Club and Lions Club meeting at Waxy O'Connor's to enjoy the usual array of cold cuts, salad, chicken & ziti, and beef with cheese sauce as well as brownies and cookies for dessert.

Allan A led the Pledge of Allegiance, first verse of America by Charlie V, and PDG Jack offered the invocation.  PP Dan O led us in the Welcome Song.

PP Jim S started the fines/happy dollars by donating two crisp five-dollar bills for reaching his 55th birthday as well as additional fines for repeatedly referring to Pres. Dominic as Past President. PDG Jack ponied up $51 for his 51 years as a Rotarian. (Who would have guessed he was that old). PP Frank fined all members highlighted on the Club’s website this month. He also offered a fine as he proudly introduced his sister Laurie who is a life long resident of Lexington and is the Business Manager of Dovera Designs and an independent consultant at Lean HR Partners. Laurie is also considering becoming a member of our club.

Former Lexington Rotarian Steve Mead has reluctantly had to excuse himself from participating in the Polar Plunge on behalf of the RCOL this year, but PP Dave S. has agreed to order a wet suit and will fill in for Steve. PP Dave and Pres. Dom are soliciting sponsors for the Plunge that will take place in Gloucester on January 23. Please consider making a pledge to support these two courageous Lexington Rotarians.

Patriot Bank, William Raveis Real Estate, Bickling Financial, Colonial Times and the RCOL donated the raffle gifts.

Today’s featured speaker was George Murnaghan from Lex Eat Together. Lex Eat Together offers a weekly dinner in the heart of Lexington for anyone in need of a nutritious meal or companionship.

Lex Eat Together consists of volunteers who desire to share community with those in need. Their mission is to provide a weekly meal in a setting that respects privacy and dignity.

The 50/50 raffle was won by a Lion Club member. I asked him for his name, but Dick Michelson told him I was with the IRS so he declined and promptly left to deposit the $120.00 in his wife’s checking account.

There will be no meeting next Monday. January 18 (MLK holiday).
