Father and Son Team of Tommy Vee and his Dad Jerry Valley Hypnotize Rotary!

It was a dry, overcast Monday afternoon, about 45 degrees (7.2 degrees Celsius for anyone who cares).  A group of Lexington Rotarians gathered in fellowship to share some camaraderie and enjoy a wonderful luncheon meeting.  Today’s fine cuisine consisted of a delicious Caesar salad, tasty sandwich fixins, appetizing mixed veggies, sumptuous Chicken with Mushrooms and thirst quenching beverages.

The bell was rung promptly by Pres. Domenic, and the group rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Bob Cunningham.  That was followed by one verse of America (not our best effort from where I was sitting) led by PS@A Charlie Vail.  The invocation was eloquently given by PDG Jack Maloney.  The welcome song was led by PP Dan Olsen (also needs work).

We were joined by 20 Lexington Rotarians, 1 visiting Rotarian and 2 guests for a total of 23 people (thank you to Secretary Julianne for the loud and clear announcement).

Raffle gifts were generously donated by:
  • The Rotary Club of Lexington
  • Walpole cooperative Bank
  • Patriot Community Bank
  • Peoples United Bank
  • (Sensing a pattern here)
  • Bob Cunningham “Retired” (from life, not Rotary)
There were 3 Paul Harris awards given.  They were awarded to PP Don Martini, PP Dave Siekman, and President Dominic Sicari

Happy dollars were given by:
  • Bob Cunningham for his recent drive to the sunshine state of Florida (and other various destinations along the way) with his wife and dog.  He was thankful that his wife did all the driving.  I’m sure she was too.
  • Pres. Dominic gave happy dollars for being #1 in Polar Plunge fund raising.  Way to go Dom!
Fees, fines and taxes were paid and suggested by:
  • PP Dave Siekman for the need to leave early.
  • PP Jim Shaw proposed a fine on PP Dan Olsen for a slight error made in a bulletin stating that PP Jim attended a Father / Daughter dance.  Apparently PP Jim’s lovely wife Lorie doesn’t share PP Jim’s open mind and sense of humor in these matters.  At that point, PP Dave S piled on another fine for PP Dan for omitting him from said Father / Daughter dance.  (Sometimes you just can’t win)
  • PDG Jack proposed a fine on PP Murry Awrach for bulletin omissions.
  • PP Murry paid a fine for leaving early.
  • Our Guest / Honorary Lexington Rotarian Paul Thibault paid a fine so he could announce the Burlington Rotary upcoming Friday Night at the Fights and “Knockout Raffle”.  By the way, Paul sat at our table because he was strong armed, I mean invited to join us by PP Jim Freeling, saving us a huge fine.  I for one am thankful.
Now that I think of it, I believe there was one table without a guest.  I don’t recall a fine being proposed on that table.  It is too late?  Can someone review the video?

Today’s Announcements were:
  • On March 21st, the Rotary Meeting will be held at Minuteman Tech
  • On March 28th, the Rotary Meeting will be held at Lexington Community Center
  • Pres Dominic announced a bowling invitation on March 20th in Peabody with fellow Rotarians in the district
  • May 6th will be Comedy night.  Please get your ads and table orders ready to go
  • May 9th will be our “Visitors Day” luncheon when all members should bring a perspective Rotary member with them as a guest.
Our speakers today were the Father and Son team of Tommy Vee and his Dad Jerry Valley.  They are professional hypnotists and they do both comedy and clinical hypnosis.  Tommy did a couple of live demonstrations with the Rotarians and Jerry told some funny stories about his years as an entertainer.  It was a very enjoyable, informative talk.  If you’d like more information, please go to www.ValleyHypnosis.com.

The 50/50 raffle drawing was announced.  The room went silent with anticipation.  The winning number of 951 was announced and Rotarian Jim Torpey cheered with excitement as he won $65.  Congratulations Jim.

The meeting came to a timely close.  I’m looking forward to the next meeting, happy and secure in the knowledge that I won’t have to do this bulletin again for quite a while.

Sincerely,
Allan Azoff
