Our first meeting of the spring saw 5” of snow on the ground! We were at The Minuteman High School and the culinary arts students prepared a fabulous buffet.

There were 24 Lexington Rotarians and no guests, except for our speaker Dr. Ed Bouquillon, but we were his guests; so no Welcome Song and no fines for “no guests”. What a relief!

The pledge was led by Alan Azoff and one verse by Charlie Vail (in tune except for the last part…).

Raffle gifts were from Patriots Community Bank, Walpole Cooperative Bank and Peoples United Bank. We need more raffle gifts so let’s have everyone donate something, not just the same people every week.

Happy dollars were paid by PDG Jack M. for the snow (maybe some people will turn the heat up a little), Bob C. for his Colorado vacation, and Steve K. for finally getting help in filling out his March Madness bracket. If anyone hasn’t paid their $20 for the Bracket pool please see PP Dave S.

Important dates:
  • May 6th-Comedy Night; there are a few tickets left, so see PP Spencer if you want them.
  • May 9th is Visitors Day. Hope all of you can bring a guest who may be interested in becoming a member of our club. This club will not grow without a concerted effort on the part of everyone to make sure it happens.

Our speaker was Dr Ed Bouquillon, Headmaster of Minuteman High School. He spoke at length about the plans for the new school that is scheduled to open in September 2020. He also spoke about the advantages of a vocational education in addition to a college degree. Many young people are graduating from college without marketable job skills and wind up living at home with parents, unable to utilize their education. The social stigma that was once attached to a young person attending vocational school is a thing of the past. Enrollments at Minuteman are increasing every year as parents and students realize the value of learning a trade and the opportunity to pursue what they really want to do in life.

PDG Jack M. won the 50/50, $55 which he donated back to the school. Thanks Jack!
Next week we meet at the Lexington Community Center which is located on the campus of the National Heritage Museum on Marrett Road. See you then!
