Jonathan McPhee Conductor Lexington Symphony Speaks to Rotary

It was a chilly, wet afternoon as five guests joined 25 members to celebrate the first meeting in May 2016 at Waxy’s.

Cold cuts, Chicken Marsala, steamed rice & veggies, and the usual chocolate chip cookies graced the buffet table as Pres. Dom called the meeting to order at precisely 12:28 PM.

Alan A. led us in the pledge, PSAA Charlie V. started us off with one verse of America and recently ordained (at approx. 12:20 PM) “Father Nick C.” presented the invocation in the absence of PDG Jack, and PP Don S. Today’s guests from the Lexington Symphony were introduced and PP Dan O. led us in the welcome song.

PP Dan B., Jr. started off Fines and Happy $ with congratulations to Patriot Community Bank for their tenth Anniversary celebration last week, then followed up with a joke of the day about a lawyer making $3000.00 at a funeral. (It was $2000.00 but who's counting?)

Lexington Symphony Director Dick Fields contributed 20 happy dollars for an article in the Colonial Times and PP Spencer offered dollars for all the work done by his committee for this Friday’s Comedy Night Gala at the Hilton Garden Inn in Burlington. This year’s comedians will be Tony V., Brad Mastrangelo & Don Gavin.

PP Murry A. then introduced our speaker for the day, Jonathan McPhee who talked about the achievements of the Lexington Symphony and their upcoming Community Music festival and Concert on May 14th at Cary Hall starting at 2:00PM. The afternoon performance will include a Lexington Symphony quintet performance of Peter and the Wolf, Bharatanatyam Dance performing ancient Indian music and dance, Guzheng Ensemble traditional Chinese orchestra as well as youth performances featuring Great Meadows Chamber Orchestra, Lexington High School Jazz and Choral ensembles, and Project STEP. Attendees will also be treated to the SNAP chorus and a cappella singers, Vocal Revolution. The Community Music Festival is free and open to the public. At 8:00PM the Symphony will take the stage for the popular “Music from the Movies” Concert featuring great film scores including Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders of the lost Ark and Schindler’s List as well as Back to the future and Chariots of Fire. Jonathon treated us to samples of these great scores at our meeting.
Concert tickets are available for sale at www.lexingtonsymphony.org or by phone at 781-523-9009.
