Distric 7930 Governor Dave Manzi Visits Rotary

Today, Monday July 27, President Dominic hosted his second Lexington Rotary Club meeting on a sunny and humid day with 21 Lexington Rotarians, 4 visiting Rotarians and 1 guest in attendance.

Waxy’s fare included baked haddock with bread crumbs, mashed red bliss potatoes, and a vegetable medley.

Steve K. led the Pledge of Allegiance, Charlie V.  started us on the 1st verse of America, Past President Nick gave us the invocation, and  Past President Bill had out guests stand and we all sang the Welcome Song (in tune).

President Dominic recounted how he had requested the committee chairs to send him a report.   He requested a vote for a fine on those chairs, who had not submitted their reports by the start of today’s meeting including:   Meaghan M., Bob C., and Past President Jim Shaw.   A $5 fine was imposed, in abstentia, on each.

President Dominic was fined $20 for failing to use the “past president” title with respect to Past President Bill.  Past President Bill graciously stepped up to the plate and paid the fine.

President Dominic announced that the first perfect attendance month this year will be in October.  There will be two public service opportunities that month, which can be used as makeups.   One of these will be the Veterans’ Breakfast on October 31.

Our visitors included David Manzi, our new District Governor, Cheryl Meehan District Governor Elect, and Jim Major Assistant District Governor.

District Governor Manzi, who is a member of the Boston Rotary Club, which meets at noon on Wednesdays at Fisher College, was our speaker and he had 3 questions:  1.  Community Service – Are we addressing the needs of our community?  2.  Support of the Rotary Foundation – Why or why not?  3.  Collaboration – Are we collaborating with our other Rotary Clubs?  Governor Manzi described his goals for this year in the context of these three questions.

After the meeting David Manzi described in greater detail the satellite club and service club initiatives in our District, which afford those who want to engage in Rotary’s service projects but whose work schedules do not permit them to commit to attend weekly meetings.   The District now has two satellite clubs with 9 members each.   They each meet once a month in the evening.

At the end of the meeting Past President Doug provided us with a Rotary Foundation update.
