Rotary District 7930 Governor Sheryl Meehan (2016-2017) Visits the Rotary Club of Lexington.

Weather
Gorgeous!  Thought about a few putts before heading in to breakfast.

Breakfast:
Delicious!  Scrambled eggs nestled against crisp bacon, sizzling sausage patties, and potatoes, hashed and brown.  Mufflets and coffee cake competed for attention, while fresh fruit begged for a splash of yogurt, washed down with OJ.  I settled for coffee.

Opening Exercises:
Neat and clean!  PP Dom S. commanded “I pledge…” with sonorous authority, while Allan A. warbled a sweet start to “My country tis of thee.”  PP Nick C. brought meaning to bowed heads with a heart-felt invocation.

Attendance
Attentive and alert!  15 Lexington Rotarians and 2 visiting Rotarian dignitaries:  District Governor Sheryl Meehan and DGN Bob Wood.  (I sat next to Sheryl…NO fine at my table!)

Welcome Song:
Melodious and moving, led by PP Dan O.  America DOES have talent!

Delighted Dollars:
Munificent!  Thank you, Allan A!**  Connie N. recognized her brother for running in the Pan Mass Challenge for Dana Farber Cancer research, with PP Dave E’s name on his shirt.  And thank you, Bob O!**  DG Sheryl donated for being with such a happy crowd and for the “amazing welcome song!”  Wow!  PP Dom S. recognized DG Sheryl with his blissful bucks.  Finally, PP Don M. joyfully contributed for everyone having the correct change today…and he promised similar cheerful currency at future meetings where all members have the correct change.  ** I owe a couple of bucks for not hearing exactly why these two fine gentlemen chipped in today.  Then I got carried away taking notes on DG Sheryl’s remarks and failed to ask them after the meeting.  OK, so I’m now a teacher, not a journalist.

Raffle Gifts
Thank you,, Walpole Cooperative Bank.  What?  Another flying, screaming critter from the third grade supply closet?  DG Sheryl was kind enough to accept the critter without a murmur.

50/50 Raffle
Generous and thoughtful!  PP Jim F. won and donated the $40 to the Rotary Foundation.

District Governor’s Visit:
President Susan introduced DGN Bob Wood, who introduced DG Sheryl.  Bravo! DG Sheryl’s classification is healthcare.  She loved her past trip to our club, thanks to PP Dom and the members’ support of Rotary:  16 scholarships!  Senior Bar-be-ques!  Patriots Day!  Veterans Breakfast!  Visitors Day!  “You combine fundraising with fun!  Thank you!” Sheryl continued, “We want our clubs to be community-responsive!  Flexibility is the key with ‘Rotary serving humanity!’”  Like the members of our club, she wants Rotarians to “enjoy the magic of Rotary,” and she is here to support and help us in our chosen Rotary tasks. She promoted two initiatives:  Helping the needy, the homeless, through the Food Bank and Rotaplast. Rotaplast International, Inc. is committed to helping children and families worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities. Working with local professionals, Rotarians, and other organizations, Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of these children. Rotaplast supports education and research towards prevention of cleft lip and/or palate. Our aim is to help local professionals build sustainable models for the care of these children, improving their lives and those of their families.) Also, ENJOY A DAY OF FELLOWSHIP, FOOD AND FUN!  On August 27th, as we close out the summer and get ready to go back to school and our fall calendar, plan on joining 100 or more Rotarians, family and friends for a day as we celebrate our Rotary family.  Cedardale is located in Groveland and will host a day with so many options to enjoy yourself that there is something for everyone. From toddlers, to teens to adults, there will be the opportunity to meet and make friends with others from around the district. Everyone is invited, and we encourage Interactors, RYLArians, Rotaractors, Rotarian partners, children and grandchildren and any friends who you think would enjoy this great day! Pricing is $35.00 for adults and young adults over the age of 15 and $20.00 for those 15 and under. The cost will include admission to Cedardale from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm with the use of all facilities including a barbecue lunch of salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, corn on the cob and watermelon.  Drinks will be extra. [FOR MORE INFORMATION ON DISTRICT ACTIVITIES, VISIT:  www.rotary7930.org.

Cheryl closed her remarks by reminding us that Polio Plus is very close to eradicating polio, worldwide.  (Sheryl is a polio survivor!)  In this centennial year for the Rotary Foundation, she hopes that we can raise an additional $26.50 per member as a Centennial Contribution.

Applause!  Applause!  Ding!
