District Polar Plunge Chair Amy Luckiewicz Speaks to Rotary

On a sunny and unusually warm Monday November 2, 2015, twenty of us Lexington Rotarians gathered at Waxy’s.

Our lunch was Chicken Picatta.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve K, the first verse of America was led by Charlie V., and our invocation was given by Past President and Past District Governor Jack M.   Past President Don O. led us in the Welcome Song.

A spirit of friendship and good will pervaded as no fines were imposed except on a late arriving member of our Club who will go nameless.

Happy Dollars flowed from multiple people to such an extent that our visiting Rotarian and guest speaker, Amy Luckiewicz, expressed amazement and made us all vow an oath of silence so that the amounts would not be disclosed to her Wakefield Club.   It was in this same spirit of amazement that she volunteered Past President Jim S. to be our Clubs Public Image Chair.

Happy Dollars were given by President Dominic, PP Don M., PP Spencer B., PP Nick C., PP Murry A., PP Don S., and our Treasurer Donna L.

Raffle Gifts were donated by Vail Studio, Peoples United Bank, Brookhaven, Arlex, Eagle Bank, and the Young Americans Foundation.

Amy Luckiewicz our speaker did her best to exhort us on ways to increase fundraising for Polio Plus through the Polar Plunge event which is scheduled for January 23rd with a snow date of February 13.  Amy is our District Polar Plunge Chair.   Amy’s multiple ways to increase fundraising include:  recruit sponsors, recruit plungers, share socially, dine out for dollars, offer a service, recruit a team, give a quote, donate plus 5%, and gift it forward.
Amy described how she became involved in Rotary and in raising dollars for Polio Plus. Amy explained that the Polio partners with Rotary include:  the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the CDC, and UNICEF. Information on the Polio eradication effort may be found at polioeradication.org and endpolio.org.
