Founder of Service Dog Project Speaks to Rotary with Some Special Friends

The Rotary Club of Lexington met on an absolutely beautiful fall day. Lunch consisted of steak tips, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Patty is doing a great job catering our meetings!

We had 17 Rotarians, 3 Guests and 2 guest service dogs. The club is getting smaller and smaller…let’s get out there and do some recruiting so we can keep this great club going!

Raffle gifts were donated by Ace Hardware, Brookhaven and Boston Volvo Village. The 50/50 Raffle was won by PP. Dan B ($40) given immediately to The Service Dog Project.

The Pledge was led by PP Jim F., 1 Verse by Pres-elect Lori, and the invocaton by Bob C.

Happy dollars were flowing freely:
  • Bob C. gave $100 for the continued progress his son has made since a horrific motorcycle accident last June. We all hope for his full recovery.
  • Alan Azoff , PP Murry and PP Bob O. for the recent events (Veteran's Breakfast, Club Social at PP Don M's home, Stop Hunger Pack-Out, Veteran's Celebration at the VA).
  • PP Spencer for his birthday and PP Don M. for coming in second in a card tournament.
Pres. Susan presented PP Don M. with a thank you gift for his club party.

Hopefully all the ticket money has been turned in to PP. Dan B for Friday night’s Cash Raffle (And, it has as of this writing, thanks to all for your efforts again this year.) Don’t forget the big party on Friday at 6:30 PM. Make sure to invite guests who purchased tickets.

Pres-elect Lori passed out Rotary letterheads and everyone wrote a Thanksgiving greeting for those who will be receiving dinners from our Club.

Our speaker was Carlene White from Service Dog Project located in Ipswich. She presented a very entertaining story about how she started in the guide dog business. She brought two Great Danes with her which are fully trained service dogs. The dogs are primarily for war veterans, children, individuals with multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s Disease as well as others in need of a service dog. Her services are fully funded by donations from various sources but mostly from Chicken Poo Fundraiser…members contribute $10 per month, that buys a numbered brick. Each month chickens are placed on a numbered grid and the first number pooped on by a chicken receives a Shat Upon Society Member Certificate! The monthly contributions total about $17,500.
