Annual Meeting With Burlington Club Well Attended

Our Thanksgiving luncheon with both Rotary Clubs of Burlington and Lexington meeting in Burlington at the Hilton Garden Inn, was enjoyed by all on a beautiful sunny fall day with temperatures reaching into the low 60s!

A beautiful and delicious luncheon consisting of turkey, roast beef, salad, veggies, and a dessert cheesecake with strawberry topping was presented by the Rotary Club of Burlington.  Mmm----good!!

Rotary Club of Burlington
President Cheryl Stanton brought the meeting to order and welcomed everyone attending.  After both clubs sang God Bless America, the invocation then given by Burlington Rotarian Jeff Wisnia, and followed by the Burlington members reciting the Rotary Four-Way Test, the meeting got underway.

President Cheryl introduced Lexington President Dominic S. President Domenic thanked those Rotary members who had participated in the food lunch pack -up and for anything else they did in relation to that, and for their attendance at today's meeting.

In regard to the upcoming Thanksgiving Day football game and holiday, Dr. Mary Czajkowski, Lexington Superintendent of Schools, and  Burlington Superintendent of
Schools, Dr. Eric Conte, were introduced and spoke words of wisdom and wished good luck to their respective teams. Various school officials of both Lexington and Burlington High administrations, athletic directors, coaches and those associated with high school football of each town made speeches and introduced their players and anyone associated with the teams, including, of course, the cheerleaders of both towns and the Burlington High Band leader.

Much awaited for were the speeches by George Peterson, Lexington Coach, and Shawn McGuire, Burlington Coach, and it appears that although it is a big rivalry, the speeches also included friendship and respect amongst the coaches and players of both teams and their respective towns.

Our speaker for the day was introduced by President Cheryl.  Speaker Butch Stearns, radio talk show host for WEEI and sports reporter for Fox 25, reiterated well about the lessons he learned both when growing up and reaching for the MOON, but actually achieving reaching the STARS by becoming a career-high radio talk show host.  Butch told us about his development from having been born in and growing up in Braintree, going onto Stonehill College, learning life's lessons from his football coach at Stonehill, and working in Rochester, Minnesota before coming back to the Boston area. He was awarded a talk show host position at WEEI and Fox 25.  Indeed, he has reached the stars. Butch received much inner strength following the untimely death of his father in 1987, because of his general strong character, including for family, work, and community. Bob Lobel of WBZ explained to him, Butch said, that it is not absolutely necessary to be liked or loved by those who listen to you on radio, but in order to be interesting and to draw an audience, you should express your own opinion(s) whether it is agreed-upon by others or not; they will listen to you, and that is what it is all about if you want to have a large following on the radio. Thank you, Butch, for a wonderful history of yourself and presentation of some valuable lessons in life, whether it be in sports or anything else related to life's successes.

The winner of the raffle, sponsored by both clubs, was our very own
PP Jim Shaw.

Next meeting Monday, November 23, will feature as our speaker Liz Kinchen, Chief Executive,
El Hogar Ministries, an organization that aids children in Honduras.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

PP Murry A.
