Club Assembly Focuses on Satellite Clubs

On a winter day that finally felt cold enough for winter, the Lexington Rotary met downstairs at Waxy’s. It was a bit different meeting downstairs, but the 16 members present had a good meeting anyway. We dispensed with the usual opening part of the meeting and just had a salute to the flag. I guess we didn’t want to draw too much attention to our off key singing, being right next to the bar!

President Dominic announced that we will have a joint meeting with the Lion’s Club on January 11 at Waxy’s, and no meeting Jan 18 for MLK Day.

PP Doug  mentioned that the 2017 Rotary International meeting will be in the USA in Atlanta, Ga, and the 2018 meeting will be even closer in Toronto.- 374 miles vs 1077 miles! This would be an ideal time to go to an International Meeting, and if you go to Toronto, it really will be an International Meeting. If you really want to go International big time, the 2016 meeting will be in Seoul, Korea.

There was no speaker today. We had a planned club assembly, principally about considering setting up a satellite club. There was a lively discussion on what the rules are, which ones are enforced, and what to do. It was decided to set up a formal committee to look into the prospects. PP Dan B was quick to volunteer, and anyone who is interested in serving should contact Dominic or Dan. For further details, check the e-mail you got Dec 28 from PP Dan. The committee will gather all of the details on what it would entail to form a satellite club and interview District 7930 sponsor clubs that have implemented satellite clubs and possible bring a member or two from those sponsor clubs to Lexington to speak to our members about their undertaking.

There were no fines, but PP Dan B happily contributed $50.00 in announcing that his son Andrew is now engaged!

Charlie Vail was back at the meeting after his serious brush with a medical emergency. He looked good having lost weight, but we agreed that there are better ways to lose weight. So nice to see him back!
