Classification Talk:  PP Bill, now a third grade teacher, shared his thoughts on how we should be teaching students about how their brains work.  He said that, like Pogo, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”  The enemy of learning, thinking, problem-solving, analyzing, creating, and radically improving anything in an ever-changing world is our ignorance of (1) what our brains do without our conscious awareness, and (2) what our brains could do for us, if we properly managed them.

In closing Bill asked if we can afford to let these powerful beliefs and attitudes develop solely by chance in our children’s brains, especially since these beliefs and attitudes appear to have a significant impact on their chances of success in school and in life.  He suggested that teachers have a responsibility to help students unlearn unproductive beliefs and learn more productive beliefs, attitudes, and skills.

Closing Q:  P. Elect Dominic closed the meeting by saying:  (Circle one)

“Tha..tha…that’s all, folks!”  “See you next week!”  “Thank goodness that’s over!”

Final Q:  To pass this test, you have to learn from our mistakes.  Find a mistake, think about why you might have made the mistake, and make a mnemonic to help avoid similar mistakes in the future.
