Center Streetscape – Conception to Completion

PRESENTATION

The presentation will run through the 12 year history of the streetscape project.  The 10 year process will be reviewed along with some of the highlights of that process and critical decisions made along the way.  From there we will roll into the two- year construction project itself, which will include the communication plan and some of the unique challenges and features.

BIOGRAPHY

John has been the Town Engineer for the Town of Lexington since January of 2009 and is a licensed professional engineer in Massachusetts.  John has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Prior to working in Lexington, John has worked for the Town of Westford and Town of Billerica as Town Engineer and has over 28 years of Municipal Engineering experience. 

 

During John’s career, he has worked on numerous capital improvement planning, design, and construction projects.  These vary from sanitary sewer expansion to bike trail creations.  John is a member of the American Public Works Association (APWA), New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), Water Environment Federation (WEF) and a member of the Baystate Roads Advisory Board and UMass Lowell Civil and Environmental Industrial Advisory Board.  John has also been the sole municipal representative on several FHWA/MassDOT committees exploring Everyday Counts initiatives. 

 

Over his career, he has presented at numerous conferences both locally and nationally on topics including stormwater watershed planning, sanitary sewer inflow and infiltration programs, pavement management, Safe Routes to Schools sidewalks, project communication and low pressure sewer systems. 

 

In John's current role in Lexington, he has responsibility for the majority of the DPWs capital outlay which includes; street improvements, storm drain Improvements, stormwater sampling and NPDES compliance, sanitary sewer I/I removal, pump station upgrades, the culvert replacement program, water distribution improvements, sidewalk installations, earth dam repairs, signalization installations and upgrades, bridge repairs / replacements, and other miscellaneous projects.
