This presentation is about the mission and culture of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, LACS. Founded in 1935 and run by a volunteer board of directors and two paid office staff members, LACS is a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation located in a spacious building just off of Lexington Center. The Society consists of nine Artisan's Guilds, Painters, Ceramics, Woodworkers, Metalworkers, Decorative Arts and Basketry, Needlearts, Weavers, Photography, and Polymer Clay, with the mission “to foster in the community a more active interest in the arts and crafts and to encourage higher artistic standards in the arts and handicrafts.” Toward fulfilling the mission, LACS offers an array of classes in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer, taught by paid professionals; the all-volunteer dues-paying membership hosts three sales, rotating guild and external shows about every three weeks, and free Painters demonstrations five times per year, all open to the public. LACS recently received Community Preservation Funding from the Town of Lexington to upgrade the lighting system in the Parson's Art Gallery at LACS
