On an overcast day, with a seasonably cool temperature, we met at Waxy’s, for their usual lunch of Caesar salad, sandwich makings, with two hot entrées today, with a choice of drinks, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Punctual Pres. Dave gaveled the meeting to order at approximately 12:30:08, and then called upon PP Nick to lead us in the Pledge, followed by PP Dan O. directing the 1st verse of America, PDG Jack offering an Invocation, and finally a good start (in tune!) of our Welcome song for our two guests today, Visiting Rotarian Paul Thibeault (RC Burlington) and our speaker.

Secretary Julianne counted 29 Rotarians and 2 Guests present.

Today’s Daily Raffle included six prizes, donated by Arlex Oil, Brookhaven at Lexington, Lexington Ace Hardware, and three of our local banks, Eagle, Patriot Community, and People’s United.

Happy $: PP Nick, for being “back again,” PP Dan B. for one of his daughters having hosted an extended family Easter dinner, PP Jim F. for having Yo-Yo Ma’s performance at Brookhaven, which prompted PP Jim S. to show his trump card – he “was with the POTUS at the dedication of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute of the United States Senate last week.”

Fines were limited: PP Dan B. fined your scribe $0.50 for having started to sit at The Table, with Dan, PP Dave E. and other VIPs, before I moved to another table where a Visiting Rotarian was sitting alone. Another table-hopper, PP Don M. was fined, primarily for having left his jacket behind.

Pres. Dave had some announcements, including:
            • Thurs. 16 April – we have a joint meeting with RC Concord, at the Colonial Inn there. Hence no meeting at Waxy’s next Monday, 13 Apr.
            • Mon. 20 April – Patriot’s Day – no meeting at Waxy’s, but we will all be helping out along Mass. Av.
            • Mon. 27 April – we’ll be back at Waxy’s, for our last meeting in “Perfect Attendance” month of April.
            • Sand4Seniors – Send PP Frank a note to volunteer to help with picking up the empty buckets and scoops, returning them to Brookhaven on 18-20 April, at your convenience. Or, register on the first page of the Club’s website, right column, “Upcoming Events.”

Our speaker today, Phillip S. Griffith, from Arlington, was introduced by Program Comm. Chair, Andrew B.

About four years ago, Phil Griffith decided to turn a hobby into a profitable business – see his informative website: www.PSGPhotoSolutions.com, 339.707.5113.

His goal is to help others use their many photos (old negatives and prints, as well as today’s digital images) to better tell their stories. You think that’s a small challenge? Our speaker told us that, on Flickr.com alone, there are over 4 million new photos posted daily. That’s more than one photo for every person in the U.S. every 3 months! And that every 2 minutes, the number of digital photos taken, worldwide, exceeds the total number of photos taken in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Clearly, “We are a people of stories.” And there is nothing more compelling than a good story, illustrated with your photos.

Mr. Griffith gave us some tips on selecting/sorting, organizing, and storing our own photo archives; he then distributed a 4-page brochure he wrote, listing many more: “30 Tips for getting your Photos Organized.”

But he also warned us: when you take a photo, you have some (copy) rights. But post it on Facebook, and you just gave Facebook the right to use and/or sell your photo. Did you ever read all the fine print in those webpages before checking “OK,” or “I agree”?

Your scribe-of-the-week,

DBH
