Fastest Rotary Meeting In Recorded History!

The weather was a spectacular blend of bright sunshine and warmth this afternoon as a group of Rotarians gathered at Waxy’s for the weekly meeting. (For those of you who aren’t big fans of the hot weather, just remember last winter.  This is better).

The food was Waxy’s famous Irish Chicken Parmigiana.  I heard comments from “what is this” to “this it pretty good”.  Of course there was salad, cold cuts, an assortment of beverages and cookies for dessert.  Linda did a fine job taking care of us as always.

When I arrived, there was a small, but dedicated group of 5 that slowly grew to a final count of 17, then 18, eventually landing on 19 Rotarians and one guest/perspective new member, Jim Tarpey.  Please do your own math.

SA Steve Mead collected all the ticket money, fines and happy dollars with his usual stealth and precision.

Raffle gifts were donated by Arlex Oil, Walpole Coop Bank, Rotary, and someone else. (Editors note: fines in order here.)

The meeting was called to order precisely at 12:30PM by AP Susan Carabbio with a hearty ringing of the bell.  She then proceeded to run the meeting like a well-oiled machine.

The 50/50 raffle was won by PSA Connie Neville in the surprising amount of $50.

Acting president was Susan Carabbio
Acting secretary was PP Jim Freehling
The Pledge was led by PP Murray Awrach.
One verse of America was led by PP Spencer Betts
The Invocation was led by PP Don Sherman
The Welcome song was led by PSA Charlie Vail

Happy Dollars were flowing:
  • Mostly because Dan Olsen gave $50 happy dollars to celebrate his 50th anniversary and trip.
  • PP Murray gave $10 happy dollars for his vacation to the wonderful Von Trap Lodge, then another happy dollar because he was still wearing his vacation garb, then another happy dollar because he was actually early today.
  • PSA Connie gave $10 happy dollars for her upcoming trip to Ireland with her son.  (That $50 50/50 win will come in handy, and Connie, when you’re in Ireland would you please check to see if there is such a thing as Irish chicken parmigiana.  I’m a wee bit skeptical)

Fines:
  • PP Murray proposed a fine on PP Spencer for speaking while someone was talking.  Not clear if that happened.
  • PP Dan proposed a fine for having 3 dentists at 1 table, and a fine on PP Murray because of his vacation clothing.  I think Murray paid the $1

Announcements:
  • Veterans Day breakfast will be held on October 31st.  All hands on deck as usual.  Please mark your calendars.
  • The Cash raffle will be held on Friday, November 13th at Waxy’s.  Everyone will need to step up on selling tickets this year.
There was no speaker soooo,
With the same spirit as she started, AP Susan rang the bell at 12:47 (shortest meeting in memory*) and the meeting was adjourned.

P.S.    Later on in the day…..there have been a few emails being sent regarding the timing of the last Rotary Spoke.  In my opinion, being a little late is not the most egregious act (although I would never be late, primarily because I can’t read my own writing and will forget everything that happened).  That being said, in the interest of truth in advertising, what I really want to know is when that picture of PP Jim Freehling was taken? I opened the spoke on my phone and had to enlarge the print so I could tell who it actually was….just sayin'.

Have a wonderful week everyone.  Sorry if the Spoke was longer than the meeting itself.
