State Representative Jay Kaufman Visits Rotary

It was a sunny, cool, crisp November day with a bone chilling breeze reminding us what is to come.

We were warmed, though, with another wonderful meal from Patty with pasta, meatballs, Italian sausage and veggies along with the usual assortment of cold cuts, desserts and beverages.

In attendance were 19 Lexington Rotarians (where is everyone?), and 1 guest, our speaker Jay Kaufman.

The pledge was led by Terry W., 1st verse of America by PSA Charlie V., invocation by PP Don S. and the Welcome Song led by PSA Charlie V.

Happy Dollars were paid by PP Dan B.  for daughter Haley winning one of the $5,000.00 cash raffle prizes, (waiting for a cut), PP Spencer for another vacation, this time to Turks & Caicos, VP Michelle G. for another successful Cash Raffle event, PP Don M for the superb job Patty and crew did for our annual joint meeting with the Burlington club, PP Domenic S. for a nice day over the weekend decorating the house for Xmas and PP Don S. for a successful and Happy Thanksgiving dinner with family without any fights.

Announcements:
PDG Jack M. brought us 100% Sustaining Member club banners from his night out with one hundred and sixty-five Rotarians from thirty-one clubs who gathered last Friday evening at the Danversport Yacht Club to celebrate the 100th birthday of The Rotary Foundation.

Pres. Elect Lori M. wanted to let everyone know that along with Pres. Susan C., PP Bob O and The Lexington Youth Commission (thanks to Sean Maloney), they delivered 26 Thanksgiving dinner baskets which benefited approximately. 110 people.

PP Frank S. reminded everyone that the Sand 4 Seniors deliveries are this Saturday, 10:00 AM at the loading dock at Brookhaven. PP Dan sent a 2nd request (to Accept or Decline) to the 19 Rotarians that have not responded yet. PLEASE RESPOND ONE WAY OR THE OTHER so PP Frank can plan properly.

The Holiday Luncheon will take place on Monday, December 19th. Bring family & friends. Allan A. has arranged for the LHS Madrigal Singers to perform and Santa will also be visiting.

Speaker:
Our speaker today was Lexington/Woburn State Representative Jay Kaufman. Jay has represented Lexington at the Statehouse for 22 years now and has seen many changes over the years. He has held regular on-going public forums in Lexington for many years to let the citizens learn about the current goings on in state government and ask questions. Jay admits that for the most part he learns more at each session than he imparts to the attendees. Speaking on the election, Jay feels it is one that did not have the best candidate for either party. He is disappointed with the Democrats and their ongoing attempt to reverse the results. There was tremendous discord and neither candidate was a favorite but Trump seemed to tap into a ground swell of disenfranchised voters who felt that Washington had failed them. He feels also the the divide between the wealthy and poor has grown greater over the years which has also fueled much anger. He is concerned about the impending shadow of terrorism from abroad and domestic. There was a lively Q& A and not enough time. Out thanks to Representative Kaufman for his many years of service to our community.

50/50 Raffle was $45.00 and won by Treasurer Donna L.

Yours in Rotary,
PP Dan B.
