We met as usual at Waxy’s, with a forecast of snow coming later today.

President Dave opened our meeting, PP Don Martini led us in our Pledge to the Flag, Don Mahoney got us started on the first verse of America, and PP Don Sherman provided an Invocation.

Secretary Susan reported that we had 25 Lexington Rotarians, 2 Visiting Rotarians (both from RC Bedford, in neighboring District 7910) and 3 guests, for a total attendance of 30.

Happy Dollars were plentiful, including from Steve M. (backyard rink), Bob C. (son accepted by his first-choice college), VP Dave Siekman (vacation with his wife, but without the kids), PP Spencer B. (Marco Island trip), and PP Murry (son in Brooklyn, broke a patella, but is expected to recovery quickly). PP Bob S. earned his fine by arriving after the bell.

This week’s raffle prizes were donated by Arlex Oil, Eagle Bank, Lexington Ace Hardware, Bickling Financial Services (PP Spencer), People’s United Bank (Susan Carabbio), and Vail Studios.

PP Dan B. announced that our members provided $358 to the Club in 2012 by buying from Amazon.com. Its easy to do, but don’t forget – you must log into Amazon’s website via our Club’s special link. Do this, and a 6% commission is paid to our Club.

The District 7930 Polar Plunge for Polio will include 4 Lexington Rotarians! Now the rest of us need to make our pledges to Steve M., Michelle, PP Bob O’K. and Pres. Dave, and then go up to Cape Ann Motor Inn on Sat. Feb. 9th, at 11:30, to cheer them on!

Together with the Lions Club of Lexington, we are presenting a large clock to the Town on Memorial Day at the closing ceremony of the 300th Anniversary Celebration, in Depot Square. PP Bob S, Secretary Susan and VP Domenic have been involved with the 300th Anniversary Committee and others in planning this event.

VP Dave Siekman told us that he only has 18 squares left in the Super Bowl pool, but he would like to sell these last squares by Friday. Who hasn’t signed up yet?

ImageProgram Committee Co-chair Miriam introduced our speaker, Ms. Sandy Blanchard of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. The LACS is a very active, non-profit organization, which offers classes, workshops, exhibits and sales. They have 10 guilds (Basketry, Ceramics, Decorative Arts, Metalworkers, Needle Arts, Painters, Photography, Polymer Clay, Weavers and Woodworkers) and over 250 members. They were founded in 1935, and since the mid-‘50s have had their own buildings, to house their various programs, studios and atria. If you are interested in learning a new craft, registration for the Spring courses starts on Feb. 7th. See their website for more information:  www.LACSma.orgImage
