It was a beautiful summer day when 27 Lexington Rotarians met at Waxy O’Connor’s and dined on a luncheon of Caesar Salad, cold cuts, breaded white fish, rice and mixed vegetables.

Raffle gifts were donated by PP Doug Holmes, Peoples United Bank, Patriot Community Bank, Walpole Cooperative Bank, Eagle Bank and Arlex Oil. The raffle prizes were won by PP Dave Eagle, President Elect Domenic Sicari, 2nd VP Lori Moresco, President Dave Siekman, Andrew Bergmann and Secretary Julianne Donato.

The pledge of allegiance was led by PP Doug Holmes, the 1st verse of America was led by Past S@A Charlie Vail and Immediate PP Jim Shaw provided the Invocation.

Happy Dollars were given by PP Jim Shaw for a great vacation in Maine followed by 5 days home alone. PP Bob O’Keefe gave happy dollars for the opening of his new store and successful hip replacement surgery for his mother-in-law who is 90 years old. Andrew Bergmann gave $10 bitter sweet dollars for paying off his first set of student loans just in time to receive the invoice for his new tuition. PP Bill Cassell gave $10 for the pleasure of being with all of us this summer. Meghan Murphy started off the fines by paying $5 for her late arrival. President Dave gave $2 for missing PP Bob’s Opening event for his new Lexington Lock retail location and PP Dan Busa fined himself $20 for a video recording technical mishap which resulted in his poor wife Jody having to undergo the ALS Ice Bucket challenge TWICE because it wasn’t recorded on the first frigid dumping.

ImageOur speaker today was Julie Powers who is half owner of Fitness Together on Marrett Road in Lexington. Julie admitted she was going to give us Imagemore of a “Sales Pitch” than a classification talk. Her “pitch” was to make us aware that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and to encourage fellow Rotarians to participate in any capacity in the 5K Run/Walk on September 13th to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Last year $5,000 was raised and Julie hopes that will be topped this year Funds are raised for research into childhood cancer which only sees about 1% of all research funding. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is named for Alexandra Scott who lost her life at age 8 after battling cancer for four years. This second annual walk needs volunteers of all sorts and ideally, Julie would like to see Lexington Rotarians walk as a group in this event which starts at Grace Chapel and runs 3.1miles/5K through Lexington. Julie became interested in this Foundation when her step daughter, Kerry, had her first child and became involved, now they are both committed to the cause and hope we will be too.

The 50/50 Raffle of $75.00 was won by PP Don Martini.
