Rotary Club of Lexington Meets at The Inn at Hastings Park

On a Sunny 70 degree beautiful fall afternoon, thirty eight Lexington Rotarians and guests met at the Inn at Hastings Park. We feasted on the best New England (Quahog) clam chowder I have ever tasted. This was followed by a fried chicken sandwich in a big roll topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Delicious baked finger potatoes were also served. Desert was a pear tart with vanilla bean ice cream topped with pear caramel sauce. An efficient wait staff took care of our choice of beverages.

Raffle gifts were donated by Wagon Wheel, Vail Studio, Brookhaven, and Lexington Ace Hardware. The pledge of allegiance was led by Julianne D, verse of America was led by Charlie V, and the Invocation was given by Bob C.  PP Dan O led us in the welcome song.

Happy dollars were given by PP Spencer B on the occasion of his son's 1st birthday, by PP Dan B and also PP Jim S on PP John O's finally appearing at a regular meeting. PP Nick C gave happy dollars in honor of Brookhaven celebrating its 25th anniversary and for the beautiful landscaping here at the Inn. PP Jim F gave because he miss spelled PP Nick's name on an invitation. PP Don M gave on the much needed Patriot's 43 to 17 win Sunday night. Sweet Megan M on the beautiful luncheon environment at the Inn.

PP Dan B fined PP Jim S for having to take bad pictures at the last meeting for want his help with a decent camera. PP Doug H proposed a fine for PP John O I guess just because he looked like he deserved one. Donna Leary on celebrating a birthday (Is that happy $ or a fine?). PP Dan B on PP Nick C for his wise crack remarks.

ImagePP Frank Smith had the honor of presenting his son Ben, the Hollywood comedy writer, with a Paul Harris Fellow.

Announcements:  Susan C announced that the Veteran's breakfast will be on Nov 8 and that we will receive an e-mail with more information on signing up to help serve the Veterans that day. Steve M announced that the cash raffle will be on Friday Nov 14 at Waxy’s. Think about contacting people you know as this is around the corner. Tickets are soon to be available. President Dave S reported that the Friend's Forever group will be coming on Oct 27. The plan is to treat them to a Liberty bus ride in the AM, lunch with the club, a movie in the afternoon, and a Bar B Q at PP Don M's house.

ImagePP Jim F introduced our speaker, Nancy Hubert.  Awhile back, Brookhaven decided to embark on a mission to interview residents who lived through or fought in World War 2.  PP Jim F stated that it is predicted that after this decade there will be no more WW 2 veterans left alive which made this project very timely. The project was led by Brookhaven employee, Nancy Hubert.  Sixty nine residents were interviewed and their experiences were made into a book which can be purchased by contacting Nancy or PP Jim F at Brookhaven. The cost of the book $20 is tax deductible as all proceeds are being donated to Honor Flight, a program that brings WW 2 veterans to Washington on Southwest Airlines to visit the WW 2 memorial.
