Eddie Andelman Speaks to Lexington/Burlington Clubs Thanksgiving Joint Meeting

A steady rain failed to dampen the spirits of 90 folks attending the annual Lexington-Burlington joint meeting. There were 27 Lexington Rotarians, 22 Burlington Rotarians, 4 guests, 15 LHS football guests and 22 BHS football guests.  All enjoyed a luncheon of chicken parmesan, steak tips, mashed potatoes stir-fry vegetables and Caesar salad. The Pledge was supposedly led by the LHS football team but when the time came to do so Charlie V. had to sub for them. The LHS cheerleaders led one verse and Bob C. gave the invocation. Charlie V led the Welcome Song.

Happy dollars were paid by PP Doug H. for winning money in the Burlington cash raffle. I couldn’t hear how much he won because he was in the back of the room, and he couldn’t hear me yell “speak up” either. Bob C. paid happy dollars for Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing fixing his heating system.  PP Jim S. was happy to have Eddie Andelman as our speaker and that Michele G. will do the Polar Plunge this winter. PP Nick C. was happy that his granddaughter is a member of the Burlington Dance Team. Curiously there were no fines levied at this meeting, unless they took place in the back of the room where no one could be heard…The 50/50 was won by PP Frank S.

Raffle gifts were donated by Arlex Oil, Vail Studios, Walpole Cooperative Bank, Rotary Club of Lexington, PP Doug H, and Fitness Together. As always we can use some more raffle prizes.

Toys for Tots will be collected on Dec. 1st and Dec. 8th and taken to Brookhaven and Walpole Cooperative. New, unwrapped toys are needed.

Our annual Holiday Party will be on Dec. 22nd. Make sure to bring plenty of money to fill the hat that will be passed!

The Superintendents of Lexington and Burlington Schools introduced their respective football entourages. Dr. Paul Ash was presented with a Burlington High fleece in honor of his years as Superintendant of the Lexington School System. This is Dr. Ash’s last year as Superintendent.

We were honored to have Eddie Andelman as our speaker. He reviewed his accomplishments leading up to being the most popular radio sports host this area has ever had. He encouraged the young people present to work just as hard in their future years as they have done in high school. He spoke of a few things we might not know about him: he hates soccer, does not like hockey and can’t figure out Cricket! He was responsible for the third harbor tunnel being named for Ted Williams and was a leader in getting rid of the Combat Zone.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
