I often ask adults when they were trained in making useful memories, and most answer, “Never!  What I know about making memories I learned as I went along.”  So, this bulletin is a test of how well you make and recall memories.  (Answers are at the end of the bulletin.)

Hot and humid outside, but the fine Caesar salad on the buffet table had nary a wilted leaf.  Rolls, meats, cheeses, cookies, and drinks.  The main dish was best described by PP Don M. as “Hamburger helper with spaghetti and stuff.”  Yum!

Thanks to PDG Jack M., we had _____ (1) guest.  Acting Sgt-at-Arms PP Dan B. duly collected fines from anyone not sitting at Jack’s table.   _____ (2) led the welcome song with _____ (3) Rotarians in all trilling along.

A crisp, clearly pronounced pledge was ably led by _____ (4).   _____’s (5) “You thought you had talent” voice led the Club in the 1st verse of America, and _____ (6) provided a thoughtful and heartfelt invocation.

Pres. Dave S. paid $20 _____ (7) dollars for his second, second wedding anniversary.  Does that make sense? _____ (8)  And for missing his first meeting last Monday.  All was forgiven.  Charlie V. contributed $50 happy _____ (9) for 49 years of deliriously happy marriage to Marge.  (The extra dollar is for next year, I guess.  Charlie is an optimist.)

_____ (10) channeled absent PP Murry A., who apparently paid $40 for a 40th Wedding Anniversary, which didn’t get into the Club Bulletin of June 23.  _____ (10) proposed a $40 fine on the Bulletin writer, _____ (11), but the Club membership in an act sensitive wisdom chose to vote the fine down.  (EDITORIAL NOTE:  Bulletin writers deserve a break now and then when they don’t recall everything.)  Oh, _____ (12) paid some happy dollars for playing golf.

Pres. Dave S. encouraged members to make up any missed meetings, either in person at another club or _____ (13), as attendance is an important obligation.  Dave also asked us to keep our _____ (14) peeled for prospective members and to share that information with PP Jim S. , who proudly displayed a citation from RI for member retention and development last year.  The Club added _____ (15) member(s) last year.

Antonios G., in a fashion similar to the Marines, is looking for a few good ideas for Club _____ (16).  Pres. Dave mentioned that PP Doug H. is heading up a task force to collect, organize, and preserve the Club’s _____ (17).  Anyone interested in sharing or helping should contact Doug.  PP Jim S. reported that the Senior BBQ’s will be held on September 16, 17 and 18, and he will let us know the locations later.  (As an aside, Jim shared a recent photo of the raised garden bed that Rotarians built this spring at Vinebrook.  Wow!  The seniors there clearly have a _____ (18 THUMB!)  Brookhaven is donating the food for the cookouts. (Thanks, Jim F.)

More from Pres. Dave:  Boston Children’s Museum sent a very nice _____ (19) letter to the Club.  The Friends Forever organization will be hosting a group of Catholic and Protestant youth from Northern Ireland in October.  Finally, the Club membership was polled for interest in a Lexington/Bedford _____ (20) game, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16.  (Warm-up @ 11:00 AM, Game Time @ 1:00 PM)  You don’t have to be Rotarian to play.

ImageOur classification speaker was _____ (21).  Born in snowy upstate New York, she moved to Massachusetts where her grandfather worked for Raytheon in Lexington.  She started out at Northeastern but went on the Framingham State, where she earned a degree in Applied Micro-economics.  Subsequently, she went into _____ (22) where she has worked for more than ten years.  Not long ago she moved to Peoples United Bank, where banking is very personal.  She loves teaching financial literacy to young people, as she did at Minuteman Tech.  Her favorite car is a 1968 Camaro, but she recently bought a _____ (23).  Her hobbies include genealogy and travel (like to Italy).

Antonios G. won $95 in the 50/50.  Before Pres. Dave closed the meeting, PP Bill C. dropped a quarter and a nickel about 8 inches, from one hand to the other.  The coins changed places.  Why?  Our resident physics expert, _____ (24) immediately knew the answer.  What do you think?  Are you smarter than a North Reading Rotarian?
