Minuteman High School Rotary Interact Club Advisor Connie Maynard and Students Speaking

Connie Maynard received her undergraduate degree is from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, where she majored in French and Spanish.  She received her Master's degree in Bilingual Education from U MA Boston, and has been teaching for 38 years(Yikes!! per Connie!).  Initially, Connie spent  2 years at Fontbonne Academy, a Catholic All Girls' High School, then six years part-time at Middlesex Community College, 2 years at Fitchburg High School, and 26 years at Minuteman.  Currently, Connie teaches French, Spanish and Latin.  Her positions include Humanities Department Lead, Junior Class Advisor, and Advisor to the Interact Community Service Club at Minuteman.  Teaching teens is something of which Connie has always had a passion.  Watching them develop into young adults between freshman and senior year is a privilege to behold for Connie.  Relationships Connie developed with so many of them carry on beyond high school, and she is still in touch with many of her former students!

Six years  ago Connie the had the opportunity to apply for the position of Lead for the Community Service Task Force at Minuteman.  At the time, there wasn't any club and the head of the Task Force did one event each year with the students - The Walk for Hunger.  Connie told the principal that she would like to turn the Community Service Task Force into the Minuteman Community Service Club, meeting bi-weekly with students and exploring the possibility of other worthwhile endeavors in addition to The Walk for Hunger.  At the end of Connie's second year in the position, someone from the Rotary Club of Lexington reached out and asked if Minuteman would like to join forces, and from that moment on Minuteman became the Minuteman Interact Community Service Club, a high school club related to Rotary International and thus to our own Rotary Club of Lexington!

Connie plans to speak about the wonderful relationship that her Minuteman students have with Rotary Club of Lexington, mentioning some of the things that they have done together in the past, and also independently.  As well, Connie will be informing the Rotary Club of Lexington what the students have done over the year of Covid-19 and what they plan to do throughout Covid and themoving on into the future.
