PP Spencer Betts Receives Another Paul Harris Fellow

On a sunny, still cool last Monday in April, our “Rock Star” President Michelle G opened the meeting attended by 24 Lexington Rotarians, 1 visiting Rotarian, and 1 guest.  President Michelle did take off her “celebrity specs” to preside, yet there was such commotion, Sgt at Arms Alan A was asked to intervene, and yelled, “Shut up!”

PP Spencer B led the Pledge with first verse of America by Megan M.  PP Don S gave the invocation (no prayers needed for the Celtics and Bruins; as for the Red Sox, well, still early.)  Patti served her usual delicious blend of hot and cold luncheon fare, highlighted by yummy chocolate chip cookies.  Our distinguished guest was a new member-to-be, Achantel Thornton, Real Estate.

After receiving yet another Paul Harris Fellow from President Michelle, PP Spencer B paid for last week’s bulletin omission; but was happy to include some more $$ for his son’s first lacrosse goal.  PP Dan B paid in honor of his twins 35th birthdays this day.  He added he is still standing, but we sided with the twins knowing what it’s like to put up with him.  PP Dan B then gave gracious kudos to PP Jim F for helping his daughter Haley getting a job at Brookhaven and for the great career boost the Brookhaven experience gave her.  Charlie V didn’t let the Welcome Song lag ─ it must be spring fever.

PP Spencer B said we still have a few tables left to buy tickets for Comedy Night, which is Friday, May 10, 7 pm, Knights of Columbus, 177 Bedford Street, Lexington, downstairs from Sgt at Arms Alan A’s Karate School/Health Club (no worries, no spa).  Sgt at Arms Alan A is handling our table for Discovery Day, May 25, and invites other Rotarians to join him.  PP Jim F announced there are 15 Lexington High School and Minuteman Vocational Scholarship winners for our annual Scholarship Luncheon on May 13.

PDG Jack M noted the passing of Marian Powell, wife of the late Jack Powell, former proprietors of the Minute Shop on Muzzey Street.  PP Dan B mentioned the recent passing and today’s wake of local painting contractor Paul McNamara, friend to so many in Lexington.

Raffle Gifts were donated by:  PP Dan O, Eagle Bank, Ray Ciccolo, and Arlex Oil.  The 50/50 Raffle was fittingly won for the first time by our recent new member Veronica C for $70.

There was no speaker today.  Must be Pres Michelle wants to give her charges some “quiet time,” or, in some cases, “nap time.”

Although now becoming a short-timer, “Rock Star” President Michelle has had quite a splendid year as our peerless leader, offering upbeat enthusiasm, Rotary good will, and inspiring new membership.  We will forgive her for having her agent and limo getting her to and from meetings.

Happy May Day ─ PP Ed G
